I called Karen one night when I was 

feeling overwhelmed by some

constructive criticism I received 

following a class presentation. 

I just couldn't shake the thoughts 

in my mind about what I should 

have/could have done differently 

to prevent the "bad" results.

I felt incredibly anxious, 

embarrassed, and sick to my stomach.



I had a short conversation with Karen

in which she was able to see 

the heart of the issue for me. 

I needed to be able to acknowledge 

myself for risk-taking

(for getting up and trying)

 rather than only for perfection

 (and approval by others).



 She suggested I list all the risks 

I'd taken recently, and give 

myself some kudos for those risks.



I got out a huge piece of 

butcher paper, some colored markers,

 and off I went. In the process I felt

such relief. And the lesson continues 

to help me as I make my way in the world.
