postcards for parents

Greetings-

Last night I went to bed relieved that a suspect had been taken into custody in the Carlie Brucia abduction case. Like the rest of you, I hoped and prayed that she would be returned home unharmed.

I awoke this morning hoping for good news. My heart sank when I read that authorities had located her body.

An incident like this strikes right at the heart of parents everywhere. How old is old enough? How safe is safe enough?

How can we balance our children's need for freedom and autonomy with our need to protect them from harm?

Whenever my fears are activated by something like this, my instinctual response is to educate myself as thoroughly as I can.

I'd like to share some important resources with you. In these articles I learned many tactics and strategies of which I was not previously aware. My kids will be safer tonight than they were this morning. I hope yours will be, too.

In honor of Carlie, let's give our children an extra hug today, and learn all we can about how to empower them to protect themselves.

Blessings,
karen
