For those of you who like to see initials and credentials,
I got me a B.A. in communicative disorders and psychology from Valparaiso
University in Indiana, and I graduated from Coach University
and Coachville.
All the really useful stuff I know has
come from decades of self-directed study and experimentation.
I have absorbed and synthesized dozens of models and theories over the years, including but not at all limited to ...

about me
As part of my personal and professional commitment
to life-long learning,I graduated from two
top-notch coach training programs, Coach University
and Coachville, and I receive ongoing education
and support. Currently I am a Yuen Method
Practitioner-in-training.
Workshops and classes are thrilling to me,
and I attend as many as possible. I'm also
an avid reader and am always Googling some
strange thing or another. Drives my kids crazy
that I have to look EVERYTHING up on the web...
I've owned and operated three successful
small businesses, including a home day care
where I took care of 4 babies under the age
of 18 months (yep, all at the same time),
a house cleaning/postpartum care service,
and this business here.
For fun I spend time with my family,
hike in the breathtakingly beautiful
Rocky Mountains,take salsa dancing lessons,
write my blog, read voraciously, talk for
hours with friends, and listen to all
kinds of music. I also volunteer as a friendly
visitor for a dear elderly woman, and participate
in Restorative Justice community circles.
My two fantastic kids (I'm so objective ...)
were both born at home -- my son is proudly
serving in the US Coast Guard, and my daughter
is a freshman who lives with me full time.
If there is anything you want to know
that I did not mention here, just ask!

I sent the email below to a new client who wanted to know more
about energy work. I thought perhaps you were curious, too. this is pretty long, so maybe you'll want a
cup of tea before you settle in?
*******************
I'm so glad you asked these important questions.
I'll do my best to clear up any confusion.
First, energy work. Energy can simply be thought of
as the life force in you - the same force that makes
the flowers come up in the spring and the leaves
drop in the autumn. It animates us and taps us
into the natural rhythm within and around us.
For the sake of discussion, let's think of this
energy as streaming through our bodies,
like rivers down a mountain. Sometimes,
for reasons that make sense to our minds
at the time, we make a decision to dam up
one of those rivers. Then the territory
downstream starts to dry up. After a while,
we forget what it was like to have energy flow
through that part of our body or mind.
Waste builds up and doesn't have a way out,
and nutrients can't get in.
The energy work I do involves calling your system's
attention to the dam it created, and asking it if
perhaps it would like to restore the flow to that
territory. If it chooses to restore the flow,
you will feel an increase in clarity around
the topic that is related to that territory.
Maybe an example would be good here. Let's say that
at one point in time, your mind decided that it was
better not to know certain things. Lots of our minds
make that decision when we are kids - when our parents
are in charge of us, what we know can actually become
a liability, because unless they happen to agree with it,
we may be punished for our awareness or the desires
it sparks in us.
So our minds, taking care of us as best they could,
blocked off the energy flow to the third eye - the chakra
in the middle of our forehead, the center that rules
our inner sight - and with it, our intuition.
With that territory all dried up, you will not
be able to get any sense of your direction,
your next step, or where to start making changes.
you will feel as though your inner vision is blocked.
And it is!
Rather than imposing a vision on you from outside,
telling you what to see, I prefer to invite your
system to restore the flow and bring all of its
parts back in service. As we move along in that
process, your own inner clarity will be restored,
and you will see clearly again.
I or a therapist or some other professional could
set up a whole external system of plans for you
to follow, and you may experience some temporary
relief by doing what we say. But in my opinion,
that's not authentically yours, and therefore is
not sustainable.
If you like, we could work together on a plan and
a gridwork to tide you over until your energy flows
are restored and you once again have access to your
own wisdom and desires in each moment.
Know that my ultimate goal would be to help you to
feel your own guidance again, and then release the
artificial structure we invented like you would
a crutch after your leg has healed.
The purpose of the energy work is to repair the
underlying imbalance that has led to the confusion
you feel. The beauty of this rather than a
psychotherapeutic approach is that we don't need
to hash over your past in order to release it.
Change can happen much more quickly and much more
comfortably for you.
You don't need to leave this moment, go back
into your past, remember and then cry about
whatever it was, and then use will power to try
to forget it. The work I do simply invites
your system to restore the flow of energy,
and the energy promptly cleanses away the residues
of memories and old habits, and brings new life
and vitality to the stagnated areas.
Much of my work takes place at a non-verbal level,
because the energy moves so much faster than we
can describe in words. While someone is telling
me their story, I am listening for the underlying
beliefs. Sometimes telling the story helps to
release the underlying energy, but it is by
no means necessary in every case. We can make
great strides without getting into the nitty
gritty details.
I know it seems kind of 'out there' to be talking
about stuff like this, which is why I invited you
to come in to experience a session and see
how it feels. If you came away from our session
feeling better, it was probably because some flow
had been restored. Feeling better is the first step
toward acting 'better'.
We take it one step at a time. We're not going to
blow up the dam and flood the entire valley in
one session! The action will follow the feeling
in its own time and way.
My own experience from receiving this work is that
when action happens this way, it feels effortless
and natural, and does not involve force or will power.
and being the lazy sort, I really like that!
And sometimes it happens that when we experience
something as bizarre as this work, our minds
jump right on it and try to negate what we are
feeling because we can't understand how or why
it happened, and it makes no logical sense.
the mind tries to talk us out of what we feel,
or tell us that what we feel is not as important
as what it tells us to do. So although we may
leave a session feeling great, soon doubt and
even ridicule can raise their voices and question
what the point of THAT was! But over time,
the good feelings become so strong that the doubts
no longer enter the ring to fight.
Ultimately, what I hope you will experience
from our work together is a relaxation of the
pressure you've been feeling to 'get it all right'
once and for all. I'd hope for you to feel
more of a sense of playfulness about the
whole thing: letting your desires flow freely,
allowing what you want to change and evolve,
and enjoying the whole game. A major step
on that road involves feeling better.
The more we feel better, the more we begin
to reverse the habits that have kept us stuck
feeling not good enough.
I hope this email has helped. In the end,
only you can decide which route you'd prefer
to take to your destination. I do think all roads
lead to the same place eventually, so there's
not a wrong choice. I hope you will simply
choose what feels the best to you, and allow
yourself the freedom to change paths if you wish
later on down the road.
If you decide to try therapy or meds or whatever
other options you may be considering, I can still
work with you alongside those interventions
if you wish. Based on the last sentence of your
email, where you mentioned that you get paralyzed
when too much is broken around you, the first thing
I would start with if you came for a session is
clearing out the sense of overwhelm and relieving
the pressure you seem to be feeling to get it all
together at once.
I hope I answered the essence of your questions.
Please let me know if there's anything else
I can do for you ....
